Overview
Established on September 20, 1960, GMCH is the second medical college in Assam and a premier state-run government institution.
It spans approximately 154–162 acres in the Bhangagarh area of Guwahati, adjacent to a massive teaching hospital.
Affiliated with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The GMC Hospital is a 2,185bed tertiary-care facility (with ~600 ICU beds), making it one of the largest hospitals in the region

Admissions
Step 1: MBBS
NEETUG score → Assam state counseling → document verification → seat allotment → fee payment.
Step 2: PG (MD/MS/Diploma)
NEETPG score → state counseling → similar admission steps.
Step 3: Superspecialty
Through NEETSS and centralized counseling
Step 4: Documents Required
NEET admit card/report, 10+2/MBBS degree and internship completion, domicile and category certificates, ID proof, medical fitness certificate.
Placements
Step 1: Internship
Conducted at the attached hospital; typical stipends range from ₹6,000 to ₹28,000/month.
Step 2: Postgraduate Stipends
